The Role Of Holy Spirit In Mission Work, Evangelism And Church Planting

The book of Acts of the Apostles is an everlasting truth that shows how the Holy Spirit works with the 1st century Church. David Wenham and Steve Walton (2011:276) agree on the development and expansion of the church and what the Holy Spirit did to take the message of Jesus to the then – known world. After His resurrection, Jesus ordered the disciples to wait for the power, the gifts His Father promised to send, (Acts 1:4). The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a means and base for the Apostles ministry. The Holy Spirit guides the Apostles to be the witness of Jesus starting from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8) Similarly Frank Tillman shows the role of Holy Spirit in God’s salvation plan for the whole creation.
The fulfillment of the Great commission (Matthew 28:19-20) and the starting point of mission in the book of Acts is due to the work of the Holy Spirit.
The book of Acts is classified and out lined based on missionary journeys. Acts (3:1-6:7)”The mission in Jerusalem”Acts 9:32-12:24” Mission work missionary Journey” Acts 16:6-19:41 narrates the second and the third missionary Journeys. All theses’ missionary Journeys, activities and works were led by the Holy Spirit. It is difficult to separate evangelism, mission and church planting without the involvement of the Holy Spirit.
How can we to day relay on Holy Spirit to accomplish the Great Commission?
It is obvious that, by witnessing the surrounding community, the church should work in evangelizing the unreached areas by preaching the gospel. In addition to this,
Prayer is the life of the first century church ,Hence we should pray, and ask the Lord of the harvest, to send out workers in to his harvest field, (Matthew 9:37-38)
We can understand that God seems to use the prayer of his people to do more in the saving work. Generally speaking, the gifts, guidance and power of the Holy Spirit are the pillar for mission. We have to seek and give priority to get the power and gifts of Holy Spirit for mission evangelism and church planting.

God bless Genet Church!
